Software for running a ski area.
First, the groomer side: GPS grooming records, snow depth under the machine, lone-worker safety and your public snow report. Built and run every night on a working ski area in New Zealand.
Your snow report, written by the groomer
This is what your skiers see on your website. The groomer drives; the report writes itself. Embed it with one line.
Sample Mountain Nordic
Thinnest first. Yellow is under 25 cm, red under 15 cm. The thresholds are yours to set.
- Tap Replay. Say: "This is a night's grooming, sped up. The cat records where it goes; a trail only counts once most of it is covered, so a cat crossing a trail on its way somewhere doesn't mark it groomed."
- Point at the amber trail mid-night: "Partly done shows as partly done. Skiers see the truth, not a tick box someone forgot."
- Point at the closed trail: "The office can close a trail from the desk and it sits at the top, so nobody reads 'groomed last night' and heads up a closed trail."
- Groomer's choice: "The driver types one line at handover. That's the whole morning-report workflow."
- Depth: "Coming in 2027. Same unit on the roof, snow surface minus the bare ground. Thin trails rise to the top." Don't promise a date for their mountain.
- Flip Nordic/Alpine with the switch: alpine groups runs by lift and shows snowmaking and area; Nordic shows kilometres.
Loading your trails takes an afternoon, not a survey
Most ski areas are already on OpenStreetMap. Snow Suite pulls your trails from there, you tick the ones you groom and name any the map left blank, and the network is ready for the first night. Try it.
Type a ski area or town. We look for the area boundary and the pistes mapped inside it.
- Drive it once in Summer Mode and it maps itself.
- Upload a GPX or KML from your existing trail map.
- Draw it in the portal's map editor.
- Tap Find my trails. Say: "Your trails are probably already on OpenStreetMap; that's what most trail-map apps are drawn from. We read the pistes inside your boundary."
- When the list lands: "Two of these are a road and a track. Untick them." Untick the last two.
- Point at the amber Unnamed row: "The map didn't know this one. Tap it and type the name." Type a name, press Enter.
- Tap Save. Say: "That's the trail network. The first night's grooming fills it in, and from then on the cat corrects the lines from real passes: if the map is 10 m out, the app proposes the fix and you approve it."
- If they ask "ours aren't on the map": the three fallbacks are on screen. The summer drive is the normal path for Depth anyway.
What ships first
Four products for the people who look after the snow. Each line below says exactly where it stands today.
Groom
Every grooming shift recorded, and the public map and report written from it.
- Tablet in the cab: driver picks their name, pre-start checks, start, pause, push, end
- A trail counts as groomed at 80% coverage; crossings don't count
- Shift briefing and handover notes; hazard and maintenance pins shared with the crew
- Season heat map, new-trail detection, trail lines corrected from real passes
- Updates arrive over the air; nobody visits the machine
Depth
How deep the snow is under the machine, trail by trail, from one unit on the roof.
- Precise GPS measures the snow surface; depth is that minus the bare ground
- Summer Mode: drive your trails once in summer and the ground model builds itself
- Thin-cover warnings in the cab, a depth map for the office, a base figure for the public
- Tilt correction, so it works on steep alpine pistespistes as well as flat trails
Watch
Someone is looking out for a driver working alone at night.
- Machine stopped too long: the tablet asks if they're okay
- No answer: messages go down your contact ladder with the last position and a map link
- Rollover, impact and stuck detection from the motion sensor in the Depth unit
- Every event logged, with who was contacted and who acknowledged
Report
The feeds and widgets that put all of this on your own website.
- Live map with where the groomer is right now
- Groomed last night, with times, the groomer's choice and a note
- KilometresArea groomed tonight and this season; conditions text
- JSON feeds, a script widget, or an iframe for sites that can't run scripts
The rest of the suite
The home mountain runs its whole operation on the same platform. These come to Snow Suite after the groomer products have had a proof season. No dates promised; the status is honest.
How it ships
A tablet in the cab and a GPS unit on the roof. Nothing wired into the machine, no dealer. Works on a snowcat, a quad or a snowmobile-towed groomer, and moves between them in minutes.
Each mountain gets its own cloud project in its own region. Your data is yours, exportable any time, and no other ski area shares it.
Kilometres or miles, hectares or acres, centimetres or inches. Trails or runs. English first; other languages when a customer needs one.
The GPS kit is passed through at what it costs us, drop-shipped to you. Buy the tablet and Starlink yourself if you prefer.
No signal in the back trails? The cab keeps recording and catches up when it's back in range. Nothing is lost.
Trails come from OpenStreetMap or your own map, and one drive in summer gives Depth its ground model. No LiDAR flight needed.
